Here is what students can expect from my private beginner lash training in Christchurch.
Theory Comes First
Before you begin working on live models, you need to understand the foundations behind safe lash application.
My private training combines online theory with in-person practical sessions.
Learning the theory separately means we can use more of our face-to-face training time for actual hands-on practice.
Theory covers the knowledge you need to understand why techniques are performed a certain way rather than simply copying movements.
Your First Practical Training Session
When you first begin lash application, the movements can feel unfamiliar.
You need to learn how to hold your tweezers comfortably, isolate natural lashes and place extensions accurately while maintaining correct distance from the eyelid.
During private training I can watch your technique closely and correct small problems as they happen.
We focus on building strong foundations rather than trying to work quickly.
Speed comes later.
Learning Classic Lashes
Classic lashes are an important foundation for beginner lash artists.
The technique involves applying an individual extension to an isolated natural lash.
While the concept sounds simple, students need to develop control over:
isolation
adhesive amount
placement
direction
attachment
styling
These skills also support more advanced techniques later.
Moving Into Hybrid and Premade Volume
Once the basic application skills are developing, students can progress into Hybrid and Premade Volume techniques.
Hybrid lashes combine different textures to create a fuller result, while Premade Volume allows you to work with lightweight manufactured fans.
Learning more than one technique gives you greater flexibility when you eventually begin working with different clients.
Lash Mapping and Styling
Not every lash set should look the same.
During training we discuss lash mapping and how lash length, curl and styling can be adapted to the client's natural lashes and eye shape.
Understanding styling helps you move beyond simply following a fixed lash map.
The goal is to learn how to make considered choices for the individual client.
Working on Live Models
Live model training is an important part of my Christchurch course.
Real natural lashes are very different from mannequin practice.
Clients can have lashes that are:
straight
downward growing
fine
dense
sparse
crossed
uneven in direction
Working with different models allows you to experience these variations while still having an educator beside you.
Infills and Safe Removal
Being a lash technician involves more than applying a fresh full set.
You also need to understand how to maintain extensions as the natural lashes grow.
Students learn about infills, removing grown-out extensions and safe removal techniques.
These are important skills because many future clients will return regularly for maintenance rather than having a new full set every appointment.
Client Consultation and Aftercare
Before performing a lash service professionally, you also need to communicate clearly with your clients.
Training includes areas such as consultations, aftercare and understanding when a lash treatment may not be appropriate.
These parts of the service may not look as exciting as creating a beautiful finished set, but they are an important part of working professionally.
What Happens After the Course?
Completing your training does not mean you should immediately expect to work at full professional speed.
Students still need to practise.
The goal of beginner training is to give you the correct foundations so you know what good technique should look and feel like while you develop experience.
My students receive ongoing support after training, so questions do not have to stop simply because the practical sessions have finished.
Before taking paying clients, make sure your technique is safe, consistent and confident across different models and natural lash types.
